This was our first time at Farakunku Lodges for a short Christmas break during a longer stay in The Gambia (3 and half months) Thank you to all the staff for making it such a great Christmas, delicious food and good company (thanks Janet!) This place can’t be improved or changed – it’s perfect as it is.

Our 4th visit to Farakunku…we’ve enjoyed some good bird watching and have spent some lovely relaxing time around the lodges and in the bird garden- really good sightings of large Nile Monitor lizard there. We’ve enjoyed the walking trails in the local area(especially to the beach) and have met numerous friendly local people, especially the school children who all want to shake your hand!

The chalets and food were excellent as always, but what makes it a really great place to stay are the staff : Kaddy who leaves our room pristine daily despite the mess we leave it in; Alpha who keeps us secure at night, looks after the bird garden and sorts out emergency water supplies! The brilliant laundry service provided by Mariama and daughter, which makes you wonder why we need a washing machine, drier and electric iron back home; our cooks Lassana, Sedat and Modou who all continue toprovide such excellent and varied meals whilst still catering for various dietary needs; Babucarr who safely drives us around despite the various hazards on the roads; and not least, Sekouba and Alif who are always there to help and maintain the grounds. Finally, thanks go to Heather and Moses for providing such a great holiday location.

(Note from Heather and Moses…sadly we had to say goodbye to Sekouba and Alif in January when they left to try their luck at large scale vegetable farming. They have been replaced by Alex and Foday who are settling into their roles)

We have thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Farakunku, including our 3-day trip to Tendaba (despite the accommodation up there!) and our other 6 days guided birding with Lamin K Njie. The lodges here would be difficult to improve and the food has been very much to our liking. We also appreciated the constant supply of hot water for the "help yourself” tea and coffee. We now have a slight problem!…with so many places yet to visit, we must avoid the easy option of returning here on a regular basis…but will we?!

A return visit to Farakunku - which says it all really! Just as enjoyable as our first stay in 2014 - peaceful, beautiful gardens to relax in and rest between birding trips. The staff, without exception, are friendly and all pull together to make our stay so relaxing and enjoyable. The lodges are spacious, light and luxurious and the beds are super comfortable. Sad to leave after only 5 nights but sure to return!

We’ve had such a wonderful holiday, which shows that this is a lovely place whether you’re "into birds” or not! Our lodge has been just right for freshening up between activities and giving us a comfortable night’s sleep. We’re already planning a return visit to enjoy the beautiful, friendly atmosphere at Farakunku ,the Gambian country and people and the lovely food! Thank you to all the staff and especially to Heather and Moses.
